MIVCA Board Responsibilities
MIVCA Board of Directors fall under two categories, elected members, and appointed members. Elected members serve three year terms which are staggered so that no more than 4 of the 12 voting board member terms will expire in any single year. Ten of the twelve positions are elected by the general membership. The board also appoints a College Rep and U.P. Rep to three year terms.
The MIVCA Officers will be elected by the Board from within the elected Board of Directors members. The length of the officer’s terms will be for two years. The President shall hold office for 2 years. An individual may hold the office of President an unlimited number of terms. The president shall have responsibility of insuring that each committee fulfills its charge, as directed by the Board. He/she may sit as an exofficio member of any committee. The President should act as liaison to the MHSAA, MIAAA and MHSCA (July 2003). The Vice-President after 1981, shall serve as the President Elect, and shall as the President in case of his/her absence or resignation. He/she shall serve as chairman of the Publicity Committee, or appoint a chairperson of that committee , who shall report to him/her.
Each board member, upon appointment or election to the executive board is expected to serve on a MIVCA Board appointed committee, and to act as a liaison to coaches in their respective leagues, county and region. In addition, each member accepts the responsibilities of: consistently attend board meetings, participating in board sponsored events, and fulfilling all duties and tasks assigned. If a board member is failing to honor the above responsibilities, he/she may be asked to provide rationale for remaining on the executive board at the next regularly scheduled board meeting. Failure to respond to this request in a timely manner may result in the board requesting a letter of resignation.
